So the challenge goes on...
Now we are half way through the year. Still somewhat managing.
This month I have spent on formatting my second novel's document. I wished to concentrate on practicing writing description. Hence this month's text is slightly shorter but more dense on the description of the world.
Theme: Crossing Boundaries.
Prompts:
A portal opens in the least likely place—describe what’s on the other side.
A forbidden book is stolen from a library of magic. What’s inside?
Write about a hidden society beneath a bustling city.
The prompt I chose: Hidden society beneath a bustling city.
No creature knew. No creature had ever known. But underneath the city of demons, there was a small village of faeries. So small that the large monsters couldn’t even smell them underneath the ground.
Up above, the land was a dangerous place. No one could be trusted, no one was safe. But down here, faeries lived peacefully. Their small houses carved to the wall of a large cave that had a tunnel leading to a small lake which flowed to the outside world. The lake was their water source as they could clean it with their magic. The faeries would eat leaves and use them for clothing as well as blankets.
The village was ruled by two siblings, brother and sister from the old family line of the faeries. They had formed alliances between various other kingdoms in the world. All of them almost as hidden as this village. Not all so small, however. No, this village was one of the smallest there was.
Yet they had to protect themselves from the demons that circled above and thus couldn’t leave their home that often. Only, if necessary, only a few faeries at a time. The demons, you see, were bloodthirsty. They didn’t care whose blood it was they devoured. They only wanted more and more. Their thirst was never satisfied, which scared the faeries because the demons populated the entire world. They made the beautiful forests burn and danced in the flames. They would even kill each other for sport.
The faeries lived peacefully though. They had their small communities where everyone had a part to fulfill. Some took care of making food, others gathered water or leaves. They lived in harmony and took care of their offspring together. No one was above the other, except the royals, but even they participated in the ordinary tasks with smiles on their beautiful faces.
If they had any business to go outside, everyone would be aware and say farewell, wishing them luck and strength. The royals had not done any diplomatic contracts with the demons because they knew it would be a waste of their energy and time. So every time someone went outside, the royals blessed that person with a talisman they were to bring back as a form of protection from demons and other scary creatures.
Once again, thank you for reading and being part of my journey!
