Second month of the year and of the challenge! I was so exited to write this one because the prompts were close to what I could have written into my books.

This month's prompt was:
"The heart of an enchanted forest holds a dark secret that no lover should uncover."
-Wait for me! shouted Christina from couple trees behind Alex. They were walking towards a strange feeling that had appeared when the two were walking past the forest.
-We should have practised running more when we still had the chance at the camp, because clearly you need the skill to keep up! Alex chuckled ironically while waiting for their partner to get to them. They both know that Alex never means harm with their witty comments, and that is partially why Chris fell in love with them in the first place. How can someone be so confident to say something like that without actually offending anyone?
-How is it going, beautiful? Alex smirks when Chris finally catches up to them. They are leaning against a tree near the path in the most casual manner. Like they would have waited hours on end.
-Oh, shut up! That is so cliché... Christina breaths heavily while leaning against her knees. The environment around the couple is strangely tangled. Like the forest itself would try to keep them out. Variety of bushes and branches keep catching onto the clothes of the couple and scratching their limbs in the process. Even the trees themselves feel out of place.
-But you like clichés my lovely bookworm, Alex purrs. They get back onto the path and continue walking without even looking at Chris blushing slightly on the side.
The day started with waking up and bathing in the lake they had stayed by the night. Luckily, they had had enough energy to collect some supplies and food for breakfast the day before. So, in the morning they could just relax for a little before leaving the site.
Something had made them move quickly after breakfast. Neither of them could understand it, but they knew they had to walk this way and keep going. After a few hours they had walked on the roads, they decided to turn from it to the forest. It had been a challenge. The bushes had been so dense that Alex had to slice few branches here and there to go through. Like they wouldn’t have been able to take an easier spot to go through?
-This way dear, Chris says quickly and turns again off the path. Alex has almost gotten used to Christina’s tendency of changing the direction in the air all of the sudden. So they turn back and follow their love.
-I wonder what are we searching for? Do you have any idea? Alex wonders after catching up. Chris just raises their shoulders and slows down their movement for a moment. Alex does the same behind her. The quietness is unsettling. Where did all the birds go?
There is a glowing toad in front of them. A bluish glowing toad.
Neither of them know how to react. And so the silence grows louder.
-Chris? What is that supposed to be?
-I have no idea. I know that I have a tail and cat ears, but that toad glows. Why should anything glow without having powers? Even chief Kalindu doesn’t glow like that and they have mastered the shadow shine...
Instantaneously the toad isn’t the weirdest thing that appears to be in front of them. As they look up in front of them, there is a strange sword laying on the ground in a rocky pedestal surrounded by a circle platform of glass and stone pillars. There are no trees around them for two meters. Yet there are four paths leading into the centre of the mystical yet small meadow in the forest.
-Are you seeing what I’m seeing?
-What on Oliupis is that? Alex growls in awe. They don’t like surprises, especially when it has something to do with magic and strange objects.
-Isn’t that the sword of Glitheys? Christina steps closer on the path towards the stone pillars.
-Sword of Glitheys?
-Yes, it is said to be the nightmare of couples. When a person holds it even once in their life, they want to instantly murder their partner if they have one. For a single person it does nothing, except if they get into a relationship. And the effect lasts until they die. I have read that it holds place in random parts of the world, disappearing every 400 years and appearing somewhere else. But the surroundings follow it everywhere. Once it was even found from the ocean!
-Why do I want to touch it? Alex murmurs some strange hollowness in their voice. Chris turns around and tries to hold their partner still. Yet they end up moving forward either way.
-It draws people to it! You have to resist honey! Are you hearing what I’m saying? Resist it! Chris starts almost screaming in agony.
